1956—eleven
years after the end of the war. The German freighter M/S San Fernando
is on its way to Shanghai. Jens, a sixteen-year-old cabin boy and the
youngest member of the crew, is the only one aboard not burdened by dark
memories of World War II. In Shanghai, he meets two young women who
claim to be Chinese. In reality, they are Japanese and live in constant
mortal danger. Cabin boy Jens, along with the bosun and the stoker
Hermann, decide to smuggle the two women aboard and help them escape to
Singapore. What begins as a reckless teenage stunt turns into a
dangerous adventure.
